Currently at work...

Were currently putting together a psoposal for a known News Paper company in Japan..
For the making of this proposal I am checking news sites from Japan and US..
SankeiWeb,YOMIURIONLINE,ZDNet,ITmedia,NYtimes.com,CNN.com,　washingtonpost.com and so on.. I am checking through so many sites.

It seems that Japanese web sites are generally liquid design in nature, where most news sites from US are not. Out of Japan the pixel size seems to be 900-1024....　The US sites which I viewed seemed to utililze smaller alphabetic font, which allowed them to adopt 3 or 4 column layout, thus creating a optimum proportion and layout which is visually appealing and easy to read.
The key difference betweent US and Japan is the sieze of the characters displayed on the web page.

In saying so, will be very difficult to adopt smaller lettering in the case of Japan.
In Japan most sites consist of 2 columns and the width of the AD is 300pixel.. You know, I really want to create a New type design and Introuce this to the Japanese market..
But its soooo difficult to get a Japanese companies to accept a or even trial a New concept! aaaaaahhh, what can I do?!

ニュースサイトっていうか、どっちかというと記事に特化したサイトのデザインを今やっていて、色んなサイトをベンチマークしてみたんだけど、どうもリキッドデザインでやるのが日本の特徴らしいね・・・。海外は解像度1024pxcelに合わせてつくってるところが多いみたい。
デザイン提案したんだけど、先方は他のニュースサイトを（悪い意味で）意識しすぎていて、つまり、他サイトがやってないようなことはやりたがらないというか、とにかく無難に抑えすぎていて、何の為にリニューアルするのかわかんないなぁ。ダメダメばっかり。

ところで面白い記事がここにあります。インフォメーションアーキテクツ社は、まさにIA設計、インターフェース設計を強みとする会社で、日本にあるんだよ。
この記事で言ってる事は、ワシントンポストのサイトを、wikiにしたらどうだろうかっていうこと。wikiかどうかはさておいて、実際の新聞の横に、彼が作ったモックアップを並べていますが、デザインは新聞そのものを踏襲していて、一見読みにくいのかな？って思うんですが、１：１にしてみてみると、なるほど超読みやすい。普段新聞派の人も、抵抗無くすんなり入れるんじゃないかな？って思います。（ちなみに今のワシントンポストはいわゆるニュースサイトって感じのデザインだけどねー。→http://www.washingtonpost.com/）
でもこれはアルファベットだからなせる技。日本語じゃ絶対無理。漢字がある限り、せいぜい３カラムが限界だし、記事サイトってユーザビリティ考えると、文字サイズは16ptくらいまであげなきゃいけないみたい。超ださいけど仕方がない。はぁぁぁあん。
で、話は戻って、このサイトの彼は、取材もかねてNYTimes onlineのCDに会いに行ったりしてるらしい。日本人でWebやってるのに常に世界が相手で、モチベーションも高くて、素晴らしいです。wikiで出来たら面白いだろうね。私はFlickrみたいに、直接表からエディターが編集出来たらもっと簡単で素晴らしいと思うけど、難しいのかな・・・。レイアウトとかいくつかテンプレ化してさ。Ajaxになるのかな？よくわかんないや。
